Join more than 600 volunteers who support Gulfside Regional Hospice throughout Pasco County. Our volunteers are truly at the heart of our hospice care. From offering a warm, comforting smile to a patient and their family to helping in one of Gulfside’s four Thrift Shoppes, there is a position for everyone!
Patient and Family Support – Provides support to patients in homes, nursing homes or Assisted Living Facilities. Support includes companionship, respite for caregivers or assisting with small tasks.
Gift of Presence - A group of volunteers who comfort patients at the time of death and bring support and reassurance to their families – these volunteers receive additional training to prepare them for their role.
Telephone Assurance Program (TAP) - Staffed by specially trained volunteers, TAP provides a link between individuals and the Hospice program. Telephone volunteers give grieving survivors the assurance of an understanding ear, keeping them informed of Hospice services and providing additional support during the grieving process.
Pet Therapy Volunteers - The goal of Gulfside Regional Hospice is to ease the pain and suffering of hospice patients and therapy dogs can have a postive effect on those lives. Volunteers with their certified therapy dogs will visit with patients. This program will require additional training.
Children’s Program Volunteers – Opportunities are available with the Mending Hearts Children’s Day Camp, which is held once a year for children who have lost a loved one. To be involved year-round with the children’s program, volunteer with the bereavement puppet show which performs shows at local schools in Pasco County. Additional volunteer training is needed when interacting with children.
Hospice House Volunteers - Volunteer roles at Gulfside Regional Hospice Houses include serving as patient companions and family liaisons as well as assisting with kitchen duties, administrative support, gardening or providing entertainment at any hospice house location.
Honey-Do Team – This group of special volunteers provide maintenance support at Gulfside Regional Hospice locations including building repairs and refurbishments, painting and landscaping.
Administrative and Clerical Support – Provides administrative support such as filing, bulk mailing, data entry, assembling information packets and manuals and reception work at all Gulfside Regional Hospice offices and locations.
Fundraising Events (development volunteers) – Assists in planning and/or volunteer at events that raise funds for Gulfside Regional Hospice.
Thrift Shoppe Volunteers - Volunteers who work at our upscale resale boutiques assist with merchandising and the day-to-day operations at one of our four thrift shoppes.
Hospice Ambassadors Program – Love to talk to new people about your experience with hospice? Hospice Ambassadors assist with community outreach activities such as health fairs and hospice speaking engagements at local churches, civic and community groups about Gulfside’s program and services. To be a Hospice Ambassador, volunteers must complete speaker’s bureau training and be a Gulfside Regional Hospice volunteer for at least six months.
Teen Volunteers – Teens, who are 14 or older, can volunteer in many of the above categories. This is a perfect opportunity for high school students to earn volunteer hours for school and college applications.
Gulfside Regional Hospice provides training for all volunteers throughout the year. In addition, Gulfside Regional Hospice volunteers can participate in educational in-services, receive the volunteer newsletter, receive a discount at GRH’s Thrift Shoppe and are invited to the annual volunteer appreciation banquet held in November during National Hospice Month.
